Chiropractic for Kids with ADHD and Sensory Processing Challenges: What Seacoast NH Parents Should Know
Chiropractic for Kids with ADHD and Sensory Processing Challenges
This one is close to my heart.
Before I opened LIFE Chiropractic NH, I trained specifically to work with neurodiverse kids. I spent time with one of the top pediatric chiropractors in the country — Dr. Drew Rubin — learning how to support children whose nervous systems are working really hard, all the time.
And I want to talk about why that matters.
First — a reframe.
ADHD, sensory processing disorder, autism spectrum disorder — these aren't broken nervous systems. They're different nervous systems. Systems that are often in a chronic state of overdrive, of dysregulation, of fight-or-flight when the situation doesn't call for it.
These kids aren't being difficult. Their nervous systems are overwhelmed.
So where does chiropractic fit in?
Chiropractic care — specifically the kind we do here — works directly with the nervous system. The spine is the highway between the brain and the body. When there's interference along that highway (we call it subluxation), the signals get distorted.
For a neurotypical child, this might show up as a sore neck or headaches. For a neurodiverse child who is already working harder to regulate, that extra interference can make everything harder — focus, sleep, emotional regulation, sensory tolerance.
When we remove that interference, we're not treating ADHD or SPD. We're giving the nervous system more room to breathe.
What parents often tell us:
-"She's sleeping better."
-"He's less explosive at transitions."
-"Her meltdowns are shorter."
-"He seems more present."
These aren't promises — every child is different. But these are patterns we see regularly.
What our visits look like:
We evaluate primitive reflexes, posture, alignment and tone to get an objective picture of where the nervous system is under stress. For kids who are sensory-sensitive, we move slowly, explain everything, and build trust before we do anything. There is no rush in our office.
We also love working alongside occupational therapists, speech therapists, and behavioral specialists — because this work is best done as a team.
If you're in Portsmouth, Dover, Durham, Newmarket, or anywhere on the Seacoast, and you're looking for a chiropractor who truly understands neurodiverse kids — we'd love to be part of your village.
