Webster Technique: What Every Pregnant Mom on the Seacoast Should Know

Pregnancy is a lot.

Your body is doing something genuinely miraculous — growing an entire human — and it's doing it while you're also just... living your life. Working. Caring for older kids. Sleeping poorly. Managing round ligament pain at 3am.

Chiropractic during pregnancy isn't a luxury. For a lot of moms, it becomes a lifeline.

What is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that focuses on the sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of your spine) and the surrounding soft tissue. When I'm certified and trained in Webster — which I am, through the ICPA — I'm looking at how pelvic alignment and tension might be affecting your body's ability to adapt to pregnancy.

When the pelvis is out of balance, it can affect the ligaments that support the uterus, potentially contributing to discomfort, restricted fetal movement, and less room for baby to get into an optimal position.

What it's not:

Webster is not a baby-turning technique. I want to be clear about that. We're not reaching in and moving the baby. We're creating balance in your pelvis so your body can function the way it was designed to — and often, babies naturally move into better positions when that balance is restored.

What pregnant patients typically notice:

-Less low back and sacral pain

-Reduced round ligament discomfort

-Better sleep (finally)

-Less hip and pubic symphysis pain

-Feeling more mobile overall

When should you start?

Any time during pregnancy. Some moms come in during the first trimester to get ahead of discomfort. Some come in the third trimester when things get uncomfortable or when baby's positioning becomes a concern. And a lot of moms come in and wish they'd started sooner.

Postpartum care is also incredibly important — your body just ran a marathon. We're here for that chapter too.

I'm one of a small number of Webster Technique certified chiropractors in New Hampshire. If you're in Portsmouth, Exeter, Hampton, Rye, or anywhere along the Seacoast, I'd love to support you through your pregnancy.
